We’ve all seen the motivational and demotivational posters with a word at the top, a picture, and a caption. For example, the poster for the word “limitations features a penguin running on ice. The caption says, ‘Until you spread your wings, you’ll have no idea how far you can…walk.'” Rev. Rachel May takes on this idea of pessimism in her Pentecost Sunday sermon called, “It Gets Better,” from John 14:8-17. How does Pentecost speak to pessimism? May says, “The promise of Pentecost is that God is still working. The story is not over. Best of all, you and I have a role in salvation history.”
