B47: The Twenty-First Sunday after Pentecost (2015)

Amy Butler

The Rev. Dr. Amy Butler, Interim Senior Minister of National City Christian Church, preaches from Job 38:1-7 and 34-41, the third sermon in her series on Job. We’ve spent two sermons with Job, and it is finally in this third sermon that God appears to Job. Job asked for an audience with God and Job finally gets that audience. God appears in a whirlwind and the writer of Job spends “two chapters on God talking about who God is.” But God’s response to Job is not at all what Job probably expected. It is not what we expect when we ask, “Why am I suffering when I did nothing wrong?” Listen as Butler explains how Job’s encounter with God can give us a new perspective on our suffering.
