B44: The Eighteenth Sunday after Pentecost, Year B (2021)

Ryan Ahlgrim

Perhaps one of the most familiar lines from the book of Esther is when Mordecai reminds Esther that she was in her current position in the king’s court “for such a time as this…” In today’s sermon, based on Esther 7:1-6, 9-10; 9:20-22, Ryan Ahlgrim, pastor of First Mennonite Church of Richmond, Virginia, gives the background story surrounding today’s passage. He links they story to current events regarding hate crimes against ethic and religious minorities, and says, “It has great meaning for us today. Perhaps the book of Esther was written for just such a time as this.”
