Richard W. Voelz is an Assistant Professor of Preaching and Worship at Union Presbyterian Seminary in Richmond, Virginia. When his family moved from North Carolina to New Jersey after his graduation from high school, it afforded Voelz an opportunity to take the hour-long train ride into New York City where, on occasion, he was able to witness the spectacle of Broadway musicals. He loved the acting and the music, “But it was the scenes, and the scene changes, that affected me the most.” His sermon from Mark 1:29-39 is called “Scene Changes,” and it shows how much the scenery makes the story when we move from the stage to the page.
