Rev. Dr. Jonathan C. Augustine, senior pastor of St. Joseph AME Church in Durham, North Carolina, begins today’s sermon by discussing one of the most influential books he has ever read, Good to Great by Jim Collins. This book was impactful because it made him think about the inevitability of leadership transitions and how to handle them. Augustine says that he’s also learned a lot from Deuteronomy 34:1-12 on how shifts in leadership should happen. Augustine says of this famous transitional passage where power is passed from Moses to Joshua, “It literally sets a model for how each and every one of us should live our lives as members of Jesus’s church.” Listen as he explains how it sets the model and how we should go about trying to follow that model.
