A29: The Second Sunday after Pentecost, Year A (2023)

Jim Somerville

Jim Somerville, pastor of Richmond’s First Baptist Church and Co-Founder of A Sermon for Every Sunday, preaches a sermon from Genesis 12:1-9, Romans 4:13-25, and Matthew 9:9-13 & 18-26 called “From Black-and-White to Color.” Somerville says, “Strange things can happen when you let God into your life. Things that once seemed so important to you might not seem so important anymore. You might give up the family farm, pack up all your belongings, and head out for an unknown country as Abram did. You might come to understand that it’s grace, and not being circumcised or keeping the commandments that saves you, as Paul did. You might look up from your day job to find Jesus looking back at you with love and understanding, as Matthew did. You might discover as all these people did that when you let God into your life things change.”
