Ryan Ahlgrim, Pastor of First Mennonite Church in Richmond, Virginia, begins this Sunday’s sermon from Exodus 17:1-7 by recounting the story of a hike he and his wife took in the Colorado mountains where they forgot to bring any water. I don’t know if you’ve ever been truly thirsty, but if you have, you know it’s all you can think about. That’s how it was for God’s people when Moses led them to a place where there was no drinking water. They began to wonder, “Is the Lord among us or not?” How about you? Have you ever asked that question? How about in these days after a global pandemic, when some of our churches appear to be dying of thirst?
