B05: The First Sunday after Christmas Day, Year B (2014)

Rolf Jacobson

“I live in Minnesota, where, at this time of year during the Christmas season, we often have snow, blizzards, and ice. We have what my colleague Karoline Lewis calls the “unnecessary freezing of water.” So if you ever encountered a snow or ice storm and you could give them one message, what would it be?” begins Dr. Rolf Jacobson, Professor of Old Testament and the Alvin N. Rogness Chair of Scripture, Theology and Ministry at Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota. “My guess is the first thing that came to your mind was probably not what the psalm writer in Psalm 148 says to the snow storm,” continues Jacobson. “Praise the Lord!” What do we make of this odd call? Listen as Jacobson unpacks what it means to praise the Lord.
