C09: The Third Sunday after the Epiphany, Year C (2016)

Jim Somerville

“When did Jesus know who he really was?” Jim Somerville, pastor of Richmond’s First Baptist Church and Co-Founder of A Sermon for Every Sunday ponders this question in today’s sermon on Luke 4:14-21. Somerville describes Epiphany as that time of year when we see Jesus revealed as the Son of God. But he wonders when Jesus had this personal epiphany. Did he know from the beginning or did he grow into an understanding of it? Is it possible that he wasn’t sure until that day in the synagogue at Nazareth?
