Anna Carter Florence, Peter Marshall Professor of Preaching at Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia, shares this Sunday’s sermon on Mark 8:27-38. Jesus asks his disciples a simple question: “Who do you say I am?” and Peter says the first thing that comes to his mind. This passage is often known as “Peter’s Confession,” but Dr. Florence suggests a better title might be, “How Peter Worked Up To A Confession and Once He’d Made It Realized the Whole Point Was to Revise It Immediately.” She challenges us to think about how we make the move from what other people say to what we say about Jesus.
