B38: The Twelfth Sunday after Pentecost, Year B (2018)

Michael Renninger

Father Michael Renninger, Pastor of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Richmond, VA, preaches a sermon from John 6:35, 41-51 on Jesus, the Bread of Life. He begins with a story about the soup his grandfather used to make at Thanksgiving, a soup that could never be replicated after his grandfather’s death. “There was something of Pop himself in that soup,” Renninger says, which leads him into a discussion of how Jesus is present in the bread and wine of communion. “We don’t all agree on how he is present,” Renninger acknowledges, “but he’s there.”
