B30: The Fourth Sunday after Pentecost, Year B (2018)

Jim Somerville

Jim Somerville, Pastor of Richmond’s First Baptist Church and Co-Founder of A Sermon for Every Sunday, preaches a sermon from the Book of 1 Samuel called, “It’s Not Always Good to Be King,” about King Saul and his rise and fall. It’s part of a series he preached in 2015 called “The Bold and the Biblical,” that covered most of 1 and 2 Samuel and part of 1 Kings. In this sermon he notes how Saul’s half-hearted obedience to God led to the anointing of David, “a man after God’s own heart.”
