Rev. Rachel May, pastor of Franktown United Methodist Church in Franktown, Virginia, preaches a sermon for Pentecost Sunday called “The Two Theys,” noticing how the “they” in the first part of the reading from Acts 2:1-21 is not the same “they” just a few verses later. The first is that group of 120 or so who received the Holy Spirit. The second is that group that heard them proclaiming God’s mighty acts in their own languages. How those two “theys” became one church may be the true miracle of Pentecost.
