Father Michael Renninger, Pastor of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Richmond, Virginia, preaches a sermon for Ascension Sunday called, “Now It’s Your Turn,” based on the Gospel lesson from Luke 24:44-53. “The stroke happened fifteen years ago,” he begins. It was his grandmother, the one who had spoon-fed him when he was a baby, but when he got to the hospital it was meal time and she was lying in her bed, unable to feed herself. She looked up at him with moist eyes and said, “Now it’s your turn, Mikey.” Which is not unlike what Jesus said to his disciples just before his ascension.
