The Rev. Sue Eaves, a retired Rector of the Episcopal Church, preaches a sermon called, “The Door and the Vine,” from John 15:1-8. She begins with the story of a conversation between herself and a young woman who had attempted suicide, whose only memories of church were the images of Jesus knocking on a door and Jesus the true vine. It was those images that helped her find a reason to go on living.
