C18: Easter Sunday, Resurrection of the Lord, Year C (2016)

Amy Butler

“Of all the Easter stories, Mark’s is the most mysterious. It leaves us wondering what happened that day and wanting to know the rest of the story. I know it’s Luke’s turn this year to tell the Easter story, but I find that I’m still thinking about Mark and how his story begins,” says Amy Butler, Interim Senior Minister at National City Christian Church in Washington DC. Mark 16:1-8 begins with three women making their way to the tomb, gripped by grief and fear, and ends with them leaving afraid. Why end the gospel of Mark this way? Listen as Butler explains why she thinks the author of the gospel of Mark intentionally leaves us hanging so that we can finish the story ourselves. How will you continue the story in a way that can change the world?
