Jim Somerville, Pastor of Richmond’s First Baptist Church and Co-Founder of A Sermon for Every Sunday, preaches a sermon for New Year’s Day about “The Making and Breaking of Resolutions.” Why do we end up making the same resolutions every year? Where is the lasting transformation we seek? Somerville believes that if we really want to change, things are going to have to get personal. He draws his inspiration from John Wesley’s Covenant service for the New Year (Note: this sermon was previously released as an option for New Year’s Day, 2017)
