“What’s Love Got to Do With It?” (A41: Proper 18)

Rev. Mark Wingfield

Ezekiel 33:7-11; Psalm 119:33-40; Romans 13:8-14; Matthew 18:15-20

Wingfield uses Tina Turner’s “What’s Love Got to Do With It” to frame a critique of Christians who neglect Jesus’ command to love their neighbors. Drawing on Romans 13 and Matthew 18, Wingfield says that love fulfills the law, cannot be limited, and should define Christian life, reconciliation, and legacy.

Rev. Mark Wingfield is executive director and publisher of Baptist News Global. He previously served 17 years as associate pastor of Wilshire Baptist Church in Dallas. He holds a bachelor of arts in journalism from the University of New Mexico.
