“Justice for All: A Mother’s Parable for Jesus” (A38: Proper 15)

Veronica Ota

Isaiah 56:1,6-8; Psalm 67; Romans 11:1-2a,29-32; Matthew 15:10-20,21-28

Ota explores the ideas of inclusion and justice, using the story of the Canaanite woman in Matthew 15 as a lens. “Emphasizing the church’s calling and responsibility to participate in the work of justice is not a personal opinion that I am trying to convince anyone of,” says Ota. “It’s what scripture tells us we must do.”

Veronica Ota is a certified candidate for ministry in the PCUSA and is currently serving as the Peacemaking and Justice Advocate with the Presbytery of San José, California. She received her bachelor’s degree from Tufts University in international literary and visual studies with a focus in Japanese culture, and a master of divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary.
