“Not Absent, Just Overlooked” (A35: Proper 12)

Rev. Mike Womble

1 Kings 3:5-12; Psalm 119:129-136; Romans 8:26-39; Matthew 13:31-33,44-52

Womble reflects on Jesus’ parables in Matthew 13, emphasizing that the kingdom of heaven is not absent—but often overlooked. Through ordinary images—seeds, yeast, treasure, pearls, and a net—Jesus reveals God’s reign quietly breaking into everyday life, transforming what seems small, hidden, or ordinary, and inviting us to notice where God is already at work.

Rev. Mike Womble is interim lead pastor at Winter Park Baptist Church in Wilmington, N.C. He holds a bachelor of science in Christian education from Messiah University, and a master of divinity from the Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond.
