“The Gift of Bold Action” (A09: Third Sunday After the Epiphany)

Rev. Dr. Eric Spivey

Isaiah 9:1-4; Psalm 27:1,4-9; 1 Corinthians 1:10-18; Matthew 4:12-23

Spivey mines a passage in Matthew, uncovering how God “presents two gifts of bold action. Each gift is an opportunity to act, to make a change. And each comes with a choice. God is the gift-giver. We are the responders. What will we do? The gift of bold action can be accepted or rejected.”

Rev. Dr. Eric Spivey is senior pastor of Vestavia Hills Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Samford University, a master of divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a doctor of ministry from Gardner-Webb University.
