“Peace (and Judgement) in the Valley” (A02: Second Sunday of Advent)

Rev. Rob Shearer

Isaiah 11:1-10; Psalm 72:1-7, 18-19; Romans 15:4-13; Matthew 3:1-12

In this Advent sermon, Shearer wonders whether “judgement” can actually be good news. “What if God’s judgement is a necessary part of that great revealing–no, not as some petty wrath or vengeance–but, for liberation–as the prophet says: ‘for the meek of the earth.'”

Rev. Rob Shearer is the regional minister for church planting with the Pacific Mountain Regional Council of The United Church of Canada. He is also a co-founder/planter of The Emmaus Community and The AbbeyChurch in Victoria, British Columbia. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Toronto and master of arts in public and pastoral leadership from the Vancouver School of Theology.
