“What Is Your Name?” (C30: Proper 7)

Rev. Ashley Robinson

1 Kings 19:1-4, (5-7), 8-15a and Psalm 42 and 43; Isaiah 65:1-9 and Psalm 22:19-28; Galatians 3:23-29; Luke 8:26-39

Robinson focuses on Luke 8:26-39, in which Jesus restores a demon-possessed man. She notes that Jesus asks the man, “What is your name?” Robinson then suggests: “If we begin to change our tune from ‘What are your demons?’ to ‘What is your name?’ perhaps we can carry on the real miracle here of re-building beloved community.”

Rev. Ashley Robinson is pastor of Christian education and community engagement at Oakhurst Baptist Church in Decatur, Georgia. She is a graduate of Central Baptist Theological Seminary’s Women’s Leadership Initiative Cohort, where she earned a master of divinity. She also served two years as a pastoral resident at Wilshire Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas.
