Dr. Gary Charles, recently retired Pastor of Central Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, Georgia, preaches a sermon from Mark 1:29-39 called, “Be Healed.” He begins by saying that he loves his church. He loves all the prophetic words and deeds that have flowed from that place, and all the ongoing ministries of social justice. But he admits, “I serve a congregation that suffers from a serious evangelism allergy, and I want to say, ‘Be healed!’ Stop saying, ‘We do social justice at Central; they do evangelism.’ I want it to be known publicly that I am an evangelical social justice Christian, as are all who are washed in the waters of baptism and fed at the Lord’s table.”
