A51: The Twenty-Third Sunday after Pentecost, Year A (2017)

Jim Somerville

Jim Somerville, Pastor of Richmond’s First Baptist Church and Co-Founder of A Sermon for Every Sunday, preaches a sermon called, “Choose this Day and Every Day,” based on Joshua 24:1-3, 14-25 and Matthew 25:1-13. It begins with Joshua’s challenge to God’s people to “choose this day whom you will serve,” and continues with the parable of the wise and foolish bridesmaids and the importance of choosing to love and serve the Lord every day. This is how we keep “oil in our lamps,” so to speak. It’s how we keep our wicks “trimmed and burning.”
